Cianjur Disaster Management Agency Reports No Damage Following Earthquake
The Cianjur Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of West Java has reported that there has been no damage to houses or buildings resulting from a magnitude 3.5 earthquake centred in the Cilaku District.
Cianjur BPBD Secretary, Asep Sudrajat, stated on Sunday that no reports of damage have been received following the tremor, and consequently, the public is advised not to panic and to remain calm. He added that the earthquake, which was felt strongly by residents in several districts including Cianjur, Cugenang, Cilaku, Cibeber, Warungkondang, and Campaka, occurred on Saturday (6/6) night.
According to data from the BMKG, the shallow earthquake was centred at coordinates 6.92 LS and 107.12 BT, specifically 11 kilometres southwest of Cianjur Regency at a depth of 7 kilometres. Dozens of officers and volunteers deployed across various districts found no structural damage caused by the quake.
“As of Sunday afternoon, the reports received indicate no damage to houses or other buildings due to the magnitude 3.5 earthquake centred in Cilaku, including in the southern regions that felt the tremors,” Sudrajat said. He urged the community to remain alert and to seek safe shelter or exit buildings immediately if tremors are felt to prepare for potential aftershocks.
Residents in the Cilaku, Cibeber, and Cugenang districts reported hearing loud rumbling sounds before the earthquake, which caused initial panic and led many to flee their homes. Angga Bogem, a resident of Cibeber District, noted that while there was no severe damage, some houses in his village experienced hairline cracks and falling roof tiles. “Before the earthquake, there was a rumbling sound similar to heavy rain,” he said.
