Ciangir Prison Chief Credits Imipas Food Security Programme for Boosting Facility's Productivity

The head of the Class IIB Ciangir Prison in Tangerang Regency, Banten, Soeistanto Poedji Djatmiko, has revealed that the facility has become more productive following the introduction of the Ministry of Immigration and Corrections’ 15 Action Programmes, which include a focus on food self-sufficiency. He expressed his gratitude to the ministry for the initiative. “Currently, with the food security programme championed by the Minister (Agus Andrianto), I personally, and perhaps the Regional Office team, extend our deepest thanks because almost the majority of the land at the Ciangir Open Prison is being utilised effectively with his full support to bolster the food security proclaimed by the government through Asta Cita,” Soeistanto said during a visit to Ciangir Prison on Thursday (9/7/2026).

Soeistanto, who is familiarly called Tanto, explained that livestock and agriculture are the flagship enterprises of Ciangir Prison. He also plans to cultivate other types of vegetables at the facility. “For the flagship enterprises at the Open Prison, as we can see together, one is layer hens. Other activities include free-range chicken farming, beef cattle fattening, and sheep farming. For the plantations, we can see cucumbers and aubergines. The area behind is going to be used for pak choi, and the lower area for spinach, with the largest area being our rice paddies,” he said.

Tanto stated that Ciangir Prison can produce 860 kilogrammes of eggs per day. Some of these eggs are even supplied to a hotel in Jakarta. “If we calculate it monthly, for eggs it can be counted per month. This means the daily egg production has now reached 860 kilogrammes,” he said. “That’s correct (supplied to a hotel). One of them is a hotel planned in Kemayoran,” he added.

Furthermore, the prison’s livestock products sell well around the Idul Adha holiday. A total of 25 sheep and 11 cattle were sold during the last Idul Adha. “The sheep and cattle are seasonal. Last Idul Adha, we sold around 25 sheep. For cattle, we sold around 11 head,” he said. In addition, inmates at Ciangir Prison also cultivate rice. Tanto said 12 tonnes of rice can be produced from the facility. “The total rice yield last time was around 12 tonnes,” he said.
