Churches supply food for students

JAKARTA (JP): Students are not having to worry about going hungry while they are demonstrating for various causes, as many parties have declared their readiness to supply them with food.

A volunteer, Septemmy Lakawa, said on Wednesday some churches, individuals and activists of the Voice of Concerned Mothers were among the charitable parties.

Hundreds of lunch boxes, for instance, were provided by congregations of GKI Kayu Putih and GKI Gunung Sahari churches on Tuesday night when the students sheltered at the Jakarta School of Theology, located at the scene of the student protest on Jl. Proklamasi in Central Jakarta, after a whole day protesting.

On Wednesday morning 200 meal boxes were supplied by the Voice of Concerned Mothers, Lakawa said.

Rev. Ayub Yahya from GKI Kayu Putih said that the church had allocated Rp 1 million (US$135) for the food supplies. (ind)
