Chung Hee-seok wins Makassar Open Men's Future 2004

MAKASSAR: South Korean Chung Hee-seok emerged the winner in the singles division at the Makassar Open Men's Future 2004 tennis tournament after defeating host player Suwandi 7-6, 6-3 in the final round held on Sunday.

With his victory, Chung earned a first prize of US$1,300, while Suwandi, as runner-up, received $900.

Suwandi, whose current ATP ranking is 1,004, said that the main reason for his defeat in the singles division was because he had to play doubles with Bonit Wiryawan in the doubles final on Saturday.

Suwandi and Bonit were defeated 7-5, 6-7, 6-2 by South Korean pair Kim Dong-hyun and Oh Hee-Kwon on Saturday.

Approximately 70 tennis players from 12 countries, including Indonesia, participated in the seven-day tournament, which began last Sunday. -- JP.
