Chubby Checker in Jakarta

JAKARTA (JP): American rock'n'roll artist Chubby Checker is to
stage a live show at the Mandarin Hotel on Jl. Jend. Sudirman,
Central Jakarta, on Nov. 17.

The concert, organized by Buena Produktama, is part of
Checker's 1995 Asian tour.

Having started his musical career when he was 14 years old,
Chubby Checker has produced 20 albums and 40 singles, including
The Twist, Limbo Rock, Dancing Party, Pony Time and
Slow Twistin. He set up the Chubby Checker Band in the l970s and
produced the album The Change Has Come with MCA Records. The
band's name changed to Chubby Checker & The Wildcats in the
l980s. Checker has also collaborated with a number of other
artists, such as The Fat Boys. Checker and The Fat Boys recorded
a new version of The Twist which stayed in the Top 20 for weeks.

Checker has also produced a number of famous movie
soundtracks, such as Calendar Girl for Penny Marshal's latest
film.

In his Jakarta show, Checker plans to present 15 hit songs.
Tickets for the show, which includes dinner, are on sale for Rp
350,000 (about US$150). (raw)
