JAKARTA (JP): Safe and fire resistant equipment maker PT Chubb Lips Indonesia (CLI) opened on Thursday a new US$12 million state-of-the-art manufacturing plant at the Cibitung Industrial Estate, east of Jakarta.

CLI president William M. Mouat said Chubb built the new facility in order to keep up with demand for exports, growing domestic demand, and its broadening product range.

The new plant is set to boost annual production capacity to more than 20,000 safes, 10,000 fire resistant products, 1,500 vault room products and more than 280,000 fire extinguishers.

Forty percent of these will be exported to more than 40 countries, the company said.

The new plant was opened by Minister of Trade and Industry Rahardi Ramelan (third right). He was accompanied by British Ambassador to Indonesia Robin Christopher (right), Mouat (forth right) and production director David Wellings (second right).

The plant's opening comes in Chubb's 25th year of operations in the country. (afs/rei)
