Two Transjakarta buses were involved in a head-on collision on the Corridor 13 route between Puri Beta and Tegal Mampang on Monday (23 February) at approximately 07:15 local time.

The incident began when a Transjakarta Bianglala bus (registration B-7136-SGA), driven by a driver identified as Y, was travelling from Kebayoran towards Cipulir. Meanwhile, a Transjakarta Mayasari Bhakti bus (registration B-7353-TGC), driven by a driver identified as A, was heading from Cipulir towards Kebayoran.

“Y admitted to falling asleep while driving, causing his vehicle to enter the opposing lane, resulting in a head-on collision,” said AKBP Ojo Ruslani, Head of the Law Enforcement Subdivision at the Jakarta Metropolitan Police Traffic Directorate, speaking to reporters.

At the time of the incident, the bus driven by A was carrying passengers, whilst the bus driven by Y was running empty with no passengers on board.

As a result, 24 passengers on the bus driven by A sustained minor injuries. The victims were rushed to hospital for medical treatment.

“The injured passengers are being treated at Sari Asih Hospital in Ciledug and Bakti Mulya Hospital in Slipi. Two of them suffered bone fractures and are being treated at Sari Asih Hospital in Ciledug. There were no fatalities,” he said.

Ojo added that officers are still carrying out the evacuation process for the two Transjakarta buses involved in the accident.

“The evacuation of the two buses involved in the collision is currently underway,” he said.

The traffic accident involving the two Transjakarta buses occurred on the elevated Corridor 13 route, commonly known as the “Sky Corridor”, near Cipulir Station in South Jakarta on Monday morning. The incident took place whilst both buses were travelling on the dedicated Transjakarta busway.

In circulating video footage, both vehicles sustained considerable damage to their front sections. The collision was a head-on impact, with the front ends of both vehicles colliding from opposite directions.

Ayu Wardhani, Head of Public Relations and CSR at Transjakarta, confirmed the accident involved operator bus fleet units BMP 263 and MYS 17100 on Corridor 13, on the Swadarma section towards Cipulir.

“Transjakarta extends its sincerest apologies for the collision incident involving operator bus fleet units BMP 263 and MYS 17100 on Corridor 13 (Swadarma section towards Cipulir) this morning. Our primary focus at this time is ensuring passenger safety,” she said in a written statement.
