Two TransJakarta bus units were involved in a collision on the elevated busway of Corridor 13 near Cipulir, Kebayoran Lama, South Jakarta, leaving dozens of passengers injured.

Head of the Traffic Law Enforcement Sub-directorate at the Jakarta Metropolitan Police, Senior Commissioner Ojo Ruslani, said the accident occurred at 07:15 local time this morning. The collision involved a TransJakarta Bianglala bus driven by a man identified by the initial Y, travelling from Kebayoran towards Cipulir, and a TransJakarta Mayasari Bakti bus driven by a person identified as A, heading from Cipulir towards Kebayoran.

Driver Fell Asleep

Based on a preliminary investigation, the driver identified as Y admitted to falling asleep while driving. As a result, the TransJakarta bus he was operating veered out of its lane, causing the accident at the location.

“Y admitted to falling asleep while driving, causing his vehicle to cross into the opposing lane, resulting in a head-on collision,” Ojo said in a statement on Monday (23/2/2026).

Officers from the Traffic Law Enforcement Sub-directorate of the Jakarta Metropolitan Police attended the scene to conduct an investigation. The evacuation of the TransJakarta buses was still underway at the time of reporting.

24 Passengers Injured

According to the latest data, Ojo said 24 TransJakarta passengers were injured, two of whom suffered bone fractures. The injured victims have been rushed to hospital for treatment.

“The current number of injured stands at 24 people, all from the bus driven by A on the Cipulir–Kebayoran route. The bus driven by Y was not carrying any passengers,” he said.

“The injured passengers are being treated at Sari Asih Hospital in Ciledug and Bakti Mulya Hospital in Slipi. Two of them suffered bone fractures and are being treated at Sari Asih Hospital in Ciledug. There were no fatalities,” he added.

TransJakarta Issues Apology

TransJakarta responded to the incident by issuing a public apology over the accident that left passengers injured.

“TransJakarta extends its deepest apologies for the accident involving operator fleet buses BMP 263 and MYS 17100 on Corridor 13 (Swadarma section towards Cipulir) this morning (23/2),” said TransJakarta’s Head of Public Relations and CSR, Ayu Wardhani, when contacted on Monday (23/2).

TransJakarta evacuated passengers to the nearest stop. The exact number of passengers on board the bus and the full breakdown of injuries were not yet known at the time of reporting, though TransJakarta confirmed that injured passengers had received medical attention.

“Our primary focus at this time is ensuring the safety of our passengers. Officers have carried out a rapid evacuation to the nearest stop, and passengers who sustained minor injuries have received treatment,” she said.
