A mother from Bantul, Anastacia Niken Purwandari, has reported suspected medical malpractice following the death of her child after receiving treatment at Prambanan Regional Hospital (RSUD Prambanan). The following is the chronology of the case.

March 2026

The legal counsel for the victim’s family, Purnermono Susanto, revealed that the case began after the victim, Naura Dwi Medita Putri (3), underwent a growth check-up at a local health post (posyandu) in March 2026. At that time, the child’s head circumference was 46 centimetres, which raised concerns. Parents were advised to seek medical examination at a healthcare facility. The referral progressed from the health post to a clinic, and finally to RSUD Prambanan, as explained at the DIY Regional Police on Tuesday (2/6/2026).

27 April 2026

During a follow-up, the child’s head circumference remained at 46 centimetres, which was deemed insufficient for her age. Doctors diagnosed the child with microcephaly and recommended a CT scan. Prior to the scan, the hospital administered sedation to calm the child. The procedure involved three injections. Following the CT scan, the child suffered seizures and vomited blood. She was subsequently admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), exhibiting bruising under her eyes and experiencing respiratory arrest.

28 April 2026

The child was declared dead on 28 April after receiving intensive care. The legal team suspects malpractice occurred during the administration of the sedative. The child failed to regain consciousness following the sedation and CT scan, leading to her death at 02:20 WIB on 28 April 2026.

17 May 2026

The case was officially reported to the DIY Regional Police on 17 May, registered under report number LP/B/319/V/2026/SPKT/Polda DIY. Purnomo stated that the report concerns alleged medical negligence as regulated under the Health Law and the Consumer Protection Law.

Account from the Victim’s Mother

Anastacia Niken Purwandari stated that her child was not ill when admitted to RSUD Prambanan and was behaving normally before the procedure. “She was healthy, she was not sick. She was still playing and eating. Before the procedure, she was healthy,” Niken said through tears. She noted that the child was still cheerful and joking with her before the sedation equipment was applied. Consequently, she is seeking an explanation from the hospital regarding the cause of death, noting that the hospital has yet to provide confirmation.

Hospital Prepares Medical Explanation

Separately, the Director of RSUD Prambanan, drg. Ratih Susila, M.P.H., confirmed that the hospital is planning to provide a medical explanation to the family and their legal counsel. She stated that the hospital is currently awaiting a schedule from the family’s lawyers. Ratih explained that, in accordance with procedure, the hospital is conducting a medical audit regarding the case, though the results cannot be disclosed at this time.
