Chronology of Three Workers Killed in Sei Mangkei SEZ Fire

Three workers died during a fire at PT Evyap Sabun Indonesia in the Sei Mangkei Special Economic Zone (SEZ), Bosar Maligas District, Simalungun Regency, on Thursday.

The victims were welding workers from PT Nirwana Mahanu Putra, a construction vendor for PT Evyap Sabun Indonesia.

Fauzi, the leader of PT Nirwana Mahanu Putra, stated that the three victims had been employed for only four days and were performing finishing work, specifically welding, on the sixth floor of the factory building.

The victims have been identified as Nasri Efendi (43), M Rifaldi (26), and Sumadi (39), all residents of Batu Bara Regency, North Sumatra.

The Head of Public Relations for the Simalungun Police, AKP Verry Purba, revealed that according to witness statements, the three workers jumped from the sixth floor of the company building in an attempt to save themselves from the spreading flames.

He noted that the victims were rushed to the Karya Husada Perdagangan Hospital, but as they had already passed away, they were subsequently taken to the mortuary at the Perdagangan General Hospital.

At this stage, authorities have not been able to confirm the exact cause of the fire; however, it is estimated that the flames first appeared on the third or fourth floor, accompanied by the sound of an explosion.

Thirteen fire engines from various agencies were deployed to combat the blaze during the incident.
