Chronology of the Tanah Tinggi Fire in Johar Baru: 30 Homes Destroyed, 140 Personnel Deployed
A fire broke out on Jalan Tanah Tinggi IV, RT 009/RW 007, Tanah Tinggi sub-district, Johar Baru district, Central Jakarta, early this morning (June 4th). The incident resulted in at least 30 residential buildings being completely destroyed.
The Head of the Central Jakarta Fire and Rescue Department (Sudin Gulkarmat), Syarifudin, confirmed that his team deployed all available resources to extinguish the fire at the location.
Based on witness testimony and reports from personnel, the fire first broke out around 00:00 WIB. One of the residents, who is believed to have been near the origin of the fire, woke up after feeling intense heat in his second-floor bedroom.
“As soon as he woke up, he saw that the fire was already large, and he immediately evacuated,” said Syarifudin in a statement on Thursday (June 4th).
The official report was received by the fire department at 00:15 WIB. Just five minutes later, at 00:20 WIB, the firefighting operation began. Given the location in a densely populated area, personnel deployed 23 fire trucks to contain the spread of the fire.
It took approximately one hour for personnel to control the situation. The fire was successfully contained at 01:35 WIB to prevent it from spreading to neighboring areas. The entire firefighting and cooling operation was completed at 04:24 WIB.
Although the fire consumed an area of approximately 250 square meters, Syarifudin confirmed that there were no casualties in the incident. A total of 240 people from 60 families managed to evacuate, although they have now lost their homes.
It is reported that the exact cause of the fire in Tanah Tinggi, Central Jakarta, is still under investigation by the police and relevant authorities. The material losses resulting from the destruction of the 30 homes are still being assessed by the local sub-district and district authorities. The Central Jakarta City Government, through the Social Service and the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), has reportedly begun preparing logistical assistance and emergency tents for the evacuees around the location.
