JAKARTA - The house of Haerul Saleh, a member of the IV Audit Board of Indonesia (BPK), caught fire in the Tanjung Barat area, Jagakarsa, South Jakarta, on Friday (8/5/2026).

The house guard, Harpen (36), said that initially, he heard screams from Haerul’s relatives who also live there.

At that time, Harpen was on guard on the ground floor.

They immediately rushed back up to Haerul’s office on the fourth floor, then opened the unlocked room while carrying several fire extinguishers, waiting for the firefighters.

However, because the number was quite limited, the fire could not be extinguished.

He said that Haerul was already unconscious at that time.

Haerul was then taken to Pasar Minggu Hospital before being picked up by his family to his official residence in the Pondok Indah area, Kebayoran Lama.

He said that usually, Haerul spends his morning playing tennis.

However, this morning he was active in his office with his colleague.

Meanwhile, Haerul’s child and wife do not reside in the newly renovated house.

Initial suspicions indicate that the fire was triggered by leftover thinner from the house renovation.

However, the police have not detailed how the thinner could catch fire.

This afternoon, a joint team from Identification and the Police Laboratory Centre along with the South Jakarta Police Resort will conduct a crime scene examination (TKP) to find out more clearly about this incident.
