RSAU dr. Esnawan Antariksa has explained the chronology of the death of Vanreko Varkas Bagaskara, a civil servant from the Ministry of Creative Economy, who lost consciousness and subsequently passed away while participating in the Basic Military Training for the Reserve Component (Latsarmil Komcad) at Halim Perdanakumas Air Force Base, Jakarta. The RSAU confirmed that the deceased received maximum medical assistance.

The incident began on Friday (25/09/2026) at 09:30 WIB, as the deceased was completing the first session of the Latsarmil closing. As he was about to enter the second training session, he complained of blurred vision and dizziness before losing consciousness.

“The Pusdikkes Health Team, which was on standby at the training site under the leadership of dr. Iriane Dewi, immediately performed first aid on the spot,” stated Colonel Kes dr. Iman Fathurrohman, Head of RSAU dr. Esnawan Antariksa, in a written statement on Sunday (27/09/2026).

“Initial examinations showed hypotension and an increase in body temperature, indicating a heatstroke attack due to physical response to weather exposure and exhaustion. Field officers immediately provided emergency treatment including cooling/cold compresses, intravenous fluid resuscitation, and oxygen therapy before referring the deceased to the Emergency Department of RSAU dr. Esnawan Antariksa Halim Perdanakusuma,” he continued.

Upon arrival at the RSAU dr. Esnawan Antariksa Emergency Department, a team of specialists immediately performed comprehensive care, including strict haemodynamic observation, organ function evaluation, and respiratory support stabilisation. Observations until that night reportedly showed positive progress.

“The patient briefly regained consciousness, showed spontaneous reflex responses, and had stable vital signs,” he said.

However, on Saturday (26/09) at approximately 04:30 WIB, a change in health condition occurred as recurrent seizures triggered a further decline in consciousness. This condition was a systemic complication of heatstroke affecting vital organ functions.

“The RSAU medical team immediately took swift action by coordinating with RSPAD Gatot Soebroto to facilitate a referral for advanced neuro-intensive care,” he said.

Iman noted that the deceased was subsequently referred using a fully equipped standard ICU ambulance, accompanied by a full medical team and Air Force Military Police personnel to RSPAD Gatot Soebroto.

The deceased arrived at the RSPAD Gatot Soebroto Emergency Department at 11:30 WIB to undergo a head CT scan and intensive treatment in the ICU under the supervision of the Physician in Charge, dr. Tanov, Sp.S, accompanied by officials from Pusdikkes and the Indonesian Ministry of Defence.

“Although the entire joint medical team from Pusdikkes, RSAU dr. Esnawan Antariksa, and RSPAD Gatot Soebroto deployed their best medical efforts and maximum intensive care, it was not meant to be. Mr Vanreko Varkas Bagaskara, S.Pd., has been declared deceased,” he concluded.
