Police have revealed the chronology of a state electricity company (PLN) officer who died from electrocution while repairing the electricity network. The incident occurred in Pohgading Village, Pringgabaya District, East Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB).

The PLN officer who died had the initials ES (43). The Head of Public Relations for the East Lombok Police, First Inspector Lalu Rusmaladi, said ES was electrocuted while attempting to splice a cable.

“The victim was cutting one of the cables and then connecting it, and at that moment the victim was shocked by the electric current. The victim then screamed for help,” Rusmaladi explained on Monday evening.

At the time, ES was atop an electricity pole with three colleagues. The victim’s colleagues immediately tried to free the victim’s hand, which was stuck to the electric cable, by kicking it until it came loose.

“After being freed, the victim was left hanging by the safety belt still attached to his waist and the electricity pole,” Rusmaladi clarified.

Once lowered, the victim was immediately rushed to the Pringgabaya Community Health Centre. A doctor’s examination found the victim suffered burns on the fingers of his left hand.

“The victim is now at the funeral home after being picked up by his wife and family from the health centre,” Rusmaladi added.

It was previously reported that a PLN officer died while repairing the electricity network in Pohgading Village, Pringgabaya District, East Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara, earlier that day. The victim is suspected to have died from electrocution while repairing a faulty cable.

The incident occurred around 2:30 p.m. Central Indonesian Time. At that time, the victim and several other officers had climbed the electricity pole to repair the network, which had been experiencing problems since the morning.
