Police have revealed the timeline of AS (47) killing his girlfriend BY (40) by strangling and hanging her on a melinjo tree in a resident’s garden in Cipocok Jaya, Serang City. Police stated that the suspect, who was the victim’s partner, had an argument which led to the murder. Serang City Police Chief Kombes Yudha Satria said BY and AS initially communicated to meet at a garden in Gelam Village, Cipocok Jaya, a usual meeting spot. “On Monday, 11 May 2026 at around 2:00 AM, the victim contacted the suspect via WhatsApp stating she was heading to their usual meeting place. Around 2:30 AM, she informed him she had left for the crime scene, after which the suspect prepared to go using a black carburettor Beat motorcycle,” Yudha said on Monday (25 May 2026). At the scene, the victim was already seated waiting for the suspect. After chatting, she asked to borrow Rp600,000 using her phone as collateral. However, the suspect claimed he had no money and was facing family financial issues. The victim became angry and insulted him as a ‘mokondo’ (a term for someone who has no money to support a relationship). “‘Alah mokondo’, can’t even repay the borrowed money,” Yudha quoted the suspect’s account of the victim’s words. “The suspect then angrily stood up, walked behind the victim, strangled her with his right arm. His left hand pulled her right arm, causing her pain. The suspect continued strangling her until she lost consciousness for five minutes,” Yudha said. According to Yudha, BY lost consciousness and was pushed by the suspect, falling face-first to the ground. Panicked, the suspect remembered having a rope on his motorcycle. He took the rope, tied a noose, climbed the melinjo tree, and secured it to the trunk. “The suspect lifted the victim to face him, carried her near the tangkil tree with the noose. His left foot stepped on a branch, hoisting the victim until her head slipped into the noose, after which he released her,” he said. After hanging the victim, the suspect took her phone and its box before returning home. He discarded her SIM card, reset the phone, and gave it to his child. “On Thursday, 14 May 2026, the suspect gave the phone and its box to his child, claiming it was purchased,” he said. The suspect also asked his child to take him to Kebon Jahe, Serang City, stating he was going to work. “That afternoon, suspect was driven by witness Aura to Kebon Jahe, claiming he would work as a labourer at Pantai Indah Kapuk 1,” he added. The suspect had previously fled to Tangsel. Previously reported, Serang City Police Reskrim Head Kompol Alfano Ramadhan said police were investigating after the victim was found dead hanging on Monday, 18 May at around 5:00 PM. Officers found multiple injuries on the body. “Based on crime scene examination and autopsy results, BY is suspected to have died unnaturally due to multiple body injuries,” Alfano said. A joint team from Serang City Police and Cipocok Jaya Police Station interviewed witnesses and recovered the victim’s missing phone as evidence. Police searched for AS, who was not at his residence in Gelam Village, Cipocok Jaya Subdistrict. Information indicated he fled to the jurisdiction of Jakarta Metropolitan Police, specifically Tangerang Selatan (Tangsel). “The suspect was subsequently taken to the Serang City Police Reskrim office for further questioning,” he added. AS faces charges under Article 459 in conjunction with Article 458 of the Indonesian Criminal Code for premeditated murder and/or murder.
