Chronology of Man Killed by Forklift in North Jakarta Due to Blind Spot

A man was crushed by a forklift at a container loading and unloading site in Marunda, Cilincing, North Jakarta. The man was crushed because he was positioned in a blind spot area.

Cilincing Police Chief Kompol Bobi Subasri explained that before the man was crushed, the forklift’s position was obstructed by a passing container truck. After the truck passed, the forklift moved forward and the man’s position was in the blind spot area of the forklift operator.

“It is likely that the forklift operator did not know the victim’s position there. So in the blind spot position, he then collided with him,” said Cilincing Police Chief Kompol Bobi Subasri when asked for confirmation on Friday (27/2/2026).

Bobi explained that the incident occurred the previous day, Thursday (26/2) at 16:00 WIB. He stated that the man who was crushed was not an employee of the container depot. The man was crushed whilst area operations were ongoing.

“Well, certainly the victim was not a depot employee there. So that is an area where the forklift operates,” Bobi clarified.

Bobi stated that his team was still working to identify the man who became the victim of being crushed by the forklift. Meanwhile, the employee operating the forklift has currently been secured at Cilincing Police Station for further investigation.

“That is what we are investigating (the victim’s identity and his presence at the container depot). Until now we have been questioning people but no one knows him. (The forklift operator) has not (been designated a suspect), he is still in custody at the police station,” Bobi said.

“We are questioning witnesses first, we are still looking at what was at the scene. Whether there was any particular intent or it was pure negligence from the operator. Of course, even though it was negligent, there are criminal penalties because it caused someone’s death,” he added.
