Chronology of Lenteng Agung Road Collapse: Causes and Current Status
Road subsidence occurred in Lenteng Agung, South Jakarta, since Wednesday (27/5/2026) evening. The incident caused disruption to main traffic flow from Jakarta to Depok. The DKI Jakarta Public Works Department has released the official chronology of the incident which has affected two lanes of the road.
According to Siti Dinarwenny, Head of the Data and Information Centre of the DKI Jakarta Public Works Department, here is the timeline of the road collapse:
Wednesday, 27 May 2026 (Evening): Initial reports were received by the Jagakarsa District Public Works Operational Unit (Satpel) from residents and street cleaning and safety officers (PPSU). At that time, initial signs of road surface damage were detected.
Thursday, 28 May 2026 (Morning to Afternoon): The Satpel team conducted monitoring and temporary emergency measures. Field inspections revealed that the soil beneath the road had become hollow or “kopong”. Coordination was carried out with the Water Resources Department (SDA) as the damage was suspected to originate from underground water channels. By afternoon, new cracks and further ground subsidence were observed.
Thursday, 28 May 2026 (Evening): Road conditions deteriorated rapidly, resulting in a total collapse. The affected area widened to two lanes, prompting authorities to immediately set up water barriers to secure the site.
As of Friday (29/5/2026), the DKI Jakarta Water Resources Department is handling permanent repairs to the damaged water infrastructure. The repair process is ongoing and requires meticulous attention due to its impact on the main road’s structural stability.
Due to the lane reduction, traffic flow from Jakarta to Depok is currently congested. Traffic police personnel have been deployed to manage the congestion on the single remaining lane. Drivers are advised to exercise extra caution and seek alternative routes where possible to avoid vehicle buildup at the site.
