Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has detained 16 people in a hand-catching operation (OTT) in Tulungagung, East Java. Tulungagung Regent Gatut Sunu Wibowo was one of those detained in the operation. “Indeed, tonight KPK is conducting a closed investigation activity in the East Java region. The team has detained a number of 16 people, one of whom is the Tulungagung Regent,” said KPK spokesperson Budi Prasetyo to reporters, quoted from detikcom on Saturday (11/4/2026). However, he has not yet elaborated on who else is involved in the KPK OTT. Budi revealed that the KPK team is still in the field. Detailed information regarding the case has also not yet been disclosed. KPK has 1x24 hours to announce the status of those caught in the OTT. So, what is Gatut Sunu’s profile? The man born on 17 December 1967 is known as a businessman in Tulungagung. Currently, Gatut is a PDIP cadre, as during the 2024 regional election he switched to running through another party, and was proposed for dismissal from the bull cadre. Gatut then ran as a candidate for Regent of Tulungagung alongside Ahmad Baharudin. The duo of candidates, called “Gabah”, registered with the Tulungagung KPU, backed by the Gerindra Party, Golkar Party, and PKS. Previously, Gatut served as Deputy Regent of Tulungagung. At that time, he accompanied Maryoto Birowo for the remainder of the 2018-2023 term.
