Jakarta (ANTARA) - Julia Prastini, or Jule, has come under scrutiny after being detained by police regarding the use of vapes suspected to contain etomidate. The arrest is part of an ongoing investigation into the distribution of vape cartridges conducted by the Narcotics Investigation Unit (Satresnarkoba) of the Soekarno-Hatta Airport Police, Metro Jaya Regional Police.

Chronology of Jule’s arrest

The case began when police detained two women, identified by the initials RR and RN, at an apartment in the Kembangan area, West Jakarta, on Monday (14/9). Officers discovered 27 vape cartridges suspected of containing etomidate at the location.

Investigators subsequently traced the origin of the goods to a Chinese national identified by the initials XC. Police apprehended XC at a hotel in the Kembangan area and found 71 additional vape cartridges of a similar model.

Through the development of the case, officers obtained information regarding a package sent to Jule. The package was received at an apartment in the Cilandak area, South Jakarta. Upon inspection, police found one vape cartridge suspected of containing etomidate. Jule was subsequently taken to the Soekarno-Hatta Airport Police for further interrogation.

Urine test results indicated that Jule tested positive for the consumption of etomidate.

“Based on the results of the urine test, the individual (Jule) was found to be positive for etomidate consumption,” stated the Head of Public Relations of the Metro Jaya Regional Police, Kombes Pol Budi Hermanto, in Jakarta on Saturday (19/9), as reported by Antara.

Jule admitted to investigators that she had only started using vapes within the last two to three weeks, citing personal reasons to cope with stress.

In total, the police seized 99 vape cartridges suspected of containing etomidate. However, Jule has not been named a suspect. The police have categorised her as a user or a victim of substance abuse and are applying a restorative justice mechanism.

“Jule is considered a user. Consequently, she will undergo assessment and subsequently be placed in rehabilitation,” said the Head of the Narcotics Investigation Unit of the Soekarno-Hatta Airport Police, AKP Michael Kharisma, on Saturday (19/9), as quoted by Antara Jawa Barat.

Jule will now undergo an assessment process to determine the rehabilitation steps through the Provincial National Narcotics Agency (BNNP). Meanwhile, RR, RN, and XC have been named suspects. Police are still investigating the origin of the goods, the distribution pattern, and the possibility of other parties being involved, according to information obtained and summarised by Antara.
