Chronology of Google's Investment in GoTo Gojek Tokopedia

Global technology company investment in Indonesia has once again attracted attention, particularly regarding court proceedings into alleged Chromebook corruption at the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology.

PT GoTo Gojek Tokopedia Tbk (GoTo) has issued an official statement concerning the history of Google’s investment from the early stages of the company’s development through to its initial public offering (IPO).

In a statement published on Thursday, 26 February 2025, GoTo explained that Google had been an investor since Gojek was still a rapidly growing start-up in Indonesia.

Prior to the investment, Google and Gojek had established a relationship as customer and technology service provider. Gojek became a Google customer through the purchase of cloud computing infrastructure, the use of maps services, and digital advertising since 2015.
