Chronology of Girl Shot by OPM Until Death in Tembagapura
The Head of Information for the TNI Habema Operational Command, Lieutenant Colonel Infantry M. Wirya Arthadiguna, has revealed the chronology of the discovery of a girl who is believed to have died after being shot by the West Papua National Liberation Army-Free Papua Organisation (TPNPB-OPM). The bloody incident occurred in the Camp Wini Kalikuluk MP 69 area, Tembagapura, Mimika Regency, Central Papua. “The brutal action allegedly carried out by the OPM group led by Guspi Waker not only sows fear but also robs the future of an innocent girl aged around 12–15 years,” Wirya explained in his statement, quoted on Saturday (9/5/2026). “From the monitoring results, two gunshots were heard from the direction of Camp David across the river, believed to originate from the OPM group led by Guspi Waker,” he revealed. The group then fired shots again towards the positions of TNI Task Force personnel around Camp Wini Kalikuluk. During the evacuation process, personnel found a girl with a gunshot wound to her left shoulder near Camp Wini. The victim was then taken to the nearest health facility. “However, fate said otherwise. On the way to the health facility, specifically on the MP 69 Main Road, the child was declared dead due to the gunshot wound she suffered,” he said. Based on the account of one of the injured victims, Irince Wandikbo, the shots came from the direction of Camp David across the river when residents were gathering with their families inside the camp. To date, the TNI Territorial Task Force is still conducting security patrols and further investigations regarding the shooting.
