Chronology of Child Rapist in East Jakarta Fleeing to Roof After Being Caught by Residents

Police have arrested a man with the initials SR suspected of raping a 12-year-old child in Cakung, East Jakarta. Before his arrest, SR fled to the roof after being caught by residents.

The incident occurred on Friday (19/6/2026) in Cakung, East Jakarta. Initially, the complainant, who is the victim’s mother, was picked up by her son-in-law to return home.

Upon arriving home, the neighbourhood unit head and several witnesses immediately informed her that the victim had been caught by residents inside the suspect’s rented room. When discovered, the victim was in the toilet and unclothed.

The suspect then attempted to escape by breaking through the roof. He was chased by residents onto the roof of the house, and a video of the pursuit went viral.

‘The suspected perpetrator tried to flee by breaking through the roof of the house,’ said the Head of the Women and Children Service Unit at the East Jakarta Metro Police, Chief Police Officer Lina Yuliana, in a statement on Sunday (21/6/2026).

The suspect was then secured and taken to the police station. Police are currently conducting further investigations.

‘However, residents managed to intercept the suspected perpetrator. After that, the suspected perpetrator was secured by local residents,’ she said.

The arrest was made after the victim’s mother filed a report with the East Jakarta Metro Police. Police have also secured a number of pieces of evidence, including the post-mortem results from the Police Hospital, the victim’s clothing, and clothing belonging to SR.

‘Currently, the perpetrator has been secured and is undergoing further investigation by investigators from the Women and Children Service Unit of the East Jakarta Metro Police,’ said Lina.

Previously, a video of a man wearing a green shirt on a roof went viral. In the video, four other people also climbed onto the roof to chase the man in the green shirt. The uploader stated that the incident was a pursuit of the rapist of a 12-year-old child in East Jakarta.

‘Astaghfirullah, he is already old, sir. This is the person (the perpetrator) wearing the green shirt, oh Allah,’ said the video recorder.
