The case of a mutilated body found wrapped in a sack in the Tanah Merah area, Pancoran Mas sub-district, Depok City, has been solved following the arrest of the perpetrator by the Greater Jakarta Metropolitan Police’s Mobile Investigation Unit. Greater Jakarta Metropolitan Police Head of Public Relations, Senior Commissioner Budi Hermanto, stated that the victim, identified as Kunaefi (51), a resident of Bojong, Pondok Terong sub-district, Cipayung district, Depok City, was allegedly murdered by a suspect with the initials SA (26). “The case began when a resident spotted a suspicious sack in the Tanah Merah area on 24 July 2026 and thought it contained rubbish,” Budi said in Jakarta on Wednesday. Subsequently, on Saturday (25/7), the victim’s wife reported her husband missing to the Depok Metro Police after he failed to return home. Then, on Tuesday (4/8) at around 3.30 p.m. Western Indonesian Time, a resident set the sack on fire, revealing human body parts inside. “Armed with the victim’s identification, the missing person report, witness statements, and a series of investigations, the Mobile Investigation Unit of the Greater Jakarta Metropolitan Police’s Criminal Investigation Directorate successfully identified the perpetrator and detained him in the Panimbang area, Pandeglang Regency, Banten,” Budi stated. The investigation revealed that Saepul (S) and the victim became acquainted through social media before agreeing to meet at a rented house in the Cipayung area on Thursday (23/7). “The meeting ended in an argument, during which the perpetrator stabbed the victim in the stomach and slashed his neck with a knife,” Budi disclosed. To cover his tracks, the perpetrator mutilated the victim’s body at the upper thigh, wrapped the corpse in black plastic and a sack, and then dumped the body in the Tanah Merah area, while the severed legs were discarded into a river stream in the Pitara area, Pancoran Mas. After committing the crime, the perpetrator took the victim’s motorcycle to Panimbang and sold it. “The perpetrator has now been detained by the Greater Jakarta Metropolitan Police’s Mobile Investigation Unit to undergo further legal proceedings,” Budi added.
