JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – A two-day-old baby girl was found abandoned in a nasi uduk cart on Pejaten Raya Street, Pasar Minggu, South Jakarta, on Tuesday (3 March 2026). The discovery began when a resident named Dinda, who was on the second floor of her house, heard a baby’s cries that did not stop. ‘The witness Dinda was on the second floor when she heard a baby’s cry, and the cry did not stop,’ said Pasar Minggu Sector Police Chief, Kompol Anggiat Sinambela, in a statement on Tuesday. The witness then went outside. When approaching the nasi uduk cart in front of her house, the baby’s cries grew louder. Indeed, a baby girl was found abandoned inside a black shopping bag placed in the cart. Dinda then informed her mother. The baby was subsequently brought to Dinda’s home. The witness then reported to the RT Ketua, and the report was forwarded to Bhabinkamtibmas and to the Pasar Minggu Police. While awaiting authorities, Dinda’s mother, Marlinah, changed the baby’s nappy because it was soiled. ‘Then by the witness Marlinah, the diaper was changed due to soiling and cleaned,’ said Anggiat. In addition to the baby and its blanket, infant formula for 0-6 months in a red carton, wet wipes, and blue gloves matching the baby’s clothes were found. Dinda also found a handwritten note addressed to the person who found the baby. The note is said to have been written by the baby’s elder brother named Zidan, 12, who claimed he left his sister because their mother died after giving birth. At the bottom of the note, the elder brother’s name, along with the name of the baby born on Monday (2 March 2026) Ameera Ramadhani, is listed. ‘(I am) Zidan, 12 years old. My sister was born on 2 March 2026, her name is Ameera Ramadhani,’ he concluded. The baby was subsequently taken to Pasar Minggu Health Centre and was handled by the Social Service. Meanwhile, police are continuing to review CCTV footage around the location to determine the boy who claimed to be Zidan.
