JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - Gunawan (33), the stabbing victim in the area of Jalan Tomang Utara I, Grogol Petamburan, West Jakarta, has disclosed the terrifying moments when he was attacked on the night of Wednesday, 20 May 2026.

Gunawan recounted that the assault began when two assailants armed with a sharp weapon suddenly charged into his room by forcing the door.

‘I was sleeping. I woke up, he (the attacker) kicked the door. He came in and immediately began stabbing me with a machete,’ Gunawan said when approached at his home on Thursday afternoon, 21 May 2026.

Inside the room, Gunawan was powerless as he endured repeated stabs to the head and arms.

‘Dest stabbed many. There were several to the head and arms, perhaps nine stabs,’ he said.

He briefly tried to cry out, but no neighbours heard his voice.

‘I fought here, inside the room. He stabbed me repeatedly in the room. I ran, I fought a little. I was caught off guard, I ran. At that point, the stabbings had filled my face with blood,’ Gunawan said.

He then ran outside, bleeding profusely, to seek help.

However, his blood-soaked condition deterred nearby residents from approaching.

Gunawan emphasised that the incident was not a mugging, but a pure act of assault.

His mobile phone and valuable items were not taken and remained lying inside the room.

He also strongly suspects that the mastermind behind the attack is the husband of a former colleague who had previously felt jealousy toward him.
