Chronology of a Drug Suspect's Fortuner Chase Ending in a Siege at Ciledug
A video showing residents besieging the driver of a Toyota Fortuner, who turned out to be a drug suspect, in Puri Beta, Ciledug, Tangerang City, has gone viral on social media. The suspect fled from police pursuit and struck several vehicles and a pavement.
The incident began when the Narcotics Unit of the South Jakarta Metro Police conducted an arrest on Friday (12 June) in the Joglo Kembangan area, West Jakarta. Officers then chased the suspect as he attempted to escape.
‘The incident started when members of the South Jakarta Police Narcotics Unit, led by Ipda Erwin Manatar Sirait, arrested four drug suspects at the scene on Jalan Al Mubarok II, Block T 2, RT.02/08, Joglo Kembangan, West Jakarta,’ said Tangerang City Metro Police Chief, Senior Commissioner Raden Muhammad Jauhari, on Saturday (13 June 2026). ‘Five members of the South Jakarta Police Narcotics Unit carried out the pursuit from the arrest scene,’ he added.
South Jakarta Metro Police Narcotics Chief, AKBP Prasetyo Nugroho, confirmed the arrest. He said that initially the suspect’s friend had been secured, but the suspect, who was in a Toyota Fortuner with registration number B-2432-VBE, fled in the car.
‘Initially, our members were going to make an arrest. One of his friends had already been secured. He was still in the car, and when we tried to arrest him, he tried to escape. We chased him with our members. Then perhaps members of the public saw it and started shouting ’thief, thief’,’ said AKBP Prasetyo Nugroho.
Prasetyo stated the suspect used synthetic tobacco. He said further investigation is underway to determine whether the suspect was a user, dealer or trafficker. ‘We are still investigating him. Whether he is a user or something else, we are still looking into it. He is still under examination,’ he said.
During the chase and subsequent mob siege, the suspect became a victim of the crowd’s anger after being called a thief and committing a hit-and-run. The suspect stopped after hitting several vehicles and a pavement in Puri Beta.
‘During the pursuit, the suspect’s vehicle allegedly struck several motorcyclists before finally stopping after hitting a pavement in the Puri Beta 2 area, Ciledug,’ said Polda Metro Jaya Head of Public Relations, Senior Commissioner Budi Hermanto.
The suspect was then secured and rushed to hospital for medical treatment. The South Jakarta Metro Police Narcotics Unit is still investigating the case. ‘At the location, there was a reaction from residents towards the suspected individual. Officers then immediately evacuated him and took him to Sari Asih Hospital for medical treatment,’ he said.
