Chronology: Ex-UGM Student Leader Finds Two Tracking Devices on Car After Gejayan Protest

Former Chairman of the Gadjah Mada University (UGM) Student Executive Board, Tiyo Ardianto, discovered two tracking devices attached to the underside of his car after participating in a demonstration in Gejayan, Yogyakarta. Tiyo shared the findings via his personal Instagram account on Sunday, 14 June 2026. He had initially found a black, box-shaped device under the vehicle. Shortly afterwards, he reported finding another similar object. The second device was round and flat and was still attached to the bottom of the car. The case has drawn significant attention as it occurred amidst a wave of student demonstrations in several regions in recent days. Besides Yogyakarta, protests also took place in Jakarta, Semarang, and Solo, with various issues raised by students and civil society groups. “Friends, after the box-shaped device I found last night was secured, this afternoon another notification appeared on my phone. It turned out there was still a flat, circular device attached to the right-rear tyre,” Tiyo wrote in his Instagram post, quoted on Monday, 15 June 2026. Tiyo stated that the second object was discovered while he was travelling to Jenderal Ahmad Yani Airport in Semarang before departing for Makassar. “I found this on the way to Jenderal Ahmad Yani Airport in Semarang to depart for Makassar. I am writing this upon arrival in Makassar as a temporary update. I will soon record a more complete statement,” he said. In the same post, Tiyo asserted that he would not cease his efforts to uncover the matter. “We will not stop here. We will not stop today. The more terrorised, the louder we become,” he wrote. The incident began after Tiyo attended the Aliansi Rakyat Memanggil action in the Gejayan area, Sleman Regency, on Saturday, 13 June 2026. After leaving the demonstration site, he received a warning via his mobile phone indicating the presence of a tracking device on his car. That evening, Tiyo uploaded a video recording of an inspection of the underside of the car. The check revealed a small, black, box-shaped device attached near the spare tyre mount.
