Chromebook Defendant Gave Phone to Director-General for PAUDasmen to Enable Zoom Meetings

An ex-director at Kemendikbudristek’s Directorate General of Primary and Secondary Education testified as a witness in the trial of the Chromebook-based laptop procurement case. Sri Wahyuningsih, who is a defendant alongside former Minister of Education, Culture, Research and Technology Nadiem Makarim, said she once gave a mobile phone to Jumeri, the Director-General for PAUDasmen (Early Childhood Education and Primary and Secondary Education). She explained that the gift arose because Jumeri frequently joined Zoom meetings with them, at various times—night or day—and often on short notice.

‘Yes, I gave a phone. Because of those Zoom meetings, he often joined from different places—sometimes in the car—and the phone could be small and its screen obscure,’ Sri said during proceedings at the Jakarta Corruption Court on Thursday, 5 March 2026.

She added that officials frequently needed to participate in online meetings from various locations, including while travelling. ‘And sometimes in those Zoom sessions in this Zoom era, the phone would be in the car and the screen small and blurred.’

Sri said she took the initiative to give Jumeri a mobile phone.

In court, Sri also clarified the payment of Rp 50 million to Jumeri. She stated that the money did not come from Chromebook procurements, but from other activities, proven by receipts. ‘Indeed, the total amount for Mr Jumeri was Rp 50 million, and when Mr Jumeri became our witness, I had confirmed that there were receipts. Mr Jumeri also admitted that the money came from several activities, and I had shown the receipts at that time,’ she said.

Former Mendikbudristek Nadiem Makarim is accused of causing state losses of Rp 2.1 trillion in the Chromebook-based laptop procurement case. The acts were carried out together with three other defendants, namely former Kemendikbudristek technology consultant Ibrahim Arief, former Director of SMP Kemendikbudristek Mulyatsyah, and former Director of SD Kemendikbudristek Sri Wahyuningsih. The loss calculation is divided into two elements: for Chromebook procurement and for Chrome Device Management (CDM).
