Chromebook Corruption Case: Former Kemdikbudristek Primary School Director Sentenced to 4 Years
The Central Jakarta Corruption Court sentenced Sri Wahyuningsih, the former Director of Primary Schools at the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology (Kemdikbudristek) for the period 2020–2021, to four years’ imprisonment in a case of alleged corruption in the procurement of Chromebook-based laptops.
“The defendant is sentenced to four years’ imprisonment and a fine of Rp 500 million,” stated Chief Justice Purwanto S Abdullah during the trial at the Central Jakarta Corruption Court on Thursday (30/4/2026).
However, the panel found the defendant guilty as charged under the subsidiary indictment of jointly committing the criminal act of corruption.
The fine must be paid within one month of the verdict becoming legally binding. If not paid, the defendant’s assets may be seized and auctioned. If the proceeds are insufficient, it will be replaced with 120 days’ imprisonment.
Additionally, the period of detention already served by the defendant is fully deducted from the imposed sentence.
In its decision, the panel also imposed court costs of Rp 5,000 on the defendant.
Meanwhile, the evidence presented in the trial is determined as stated in the verdict, with some to be used in other cases.
In its legal considerations, the panel of judges stated that, based on Article 222 paragraph (1) of the Criminal Procedure Code (KUHAP), the defendant is liable to pay the court costs as determined in the verdict.
The verdict also refers to several legal provisions, including Article 3 in conjunction with Article 18 of Law No. 31 of 1999 on the Eradication of Criminal Acts of Corruption as amended by Law No. 20 of 2001.
Additionally, the panel considered provisions in Law No. 1 of 2025 on the Adjustment of Criminal Threats, as well as Law No. 46 of 2009 on Corruption Courts, and other related legislation.
Previously, the Public Prosecutor demanded six years’ imprisonment for Sri Wahyuningsih, along with a fine of Rp 500 million or subsidiary 120 days’ imprisonment.
In this case, Sri Wahyuningsih, along with other parties, is alleged to have pressured several commitment-making officials (PPK) to select Chromebooks in the procurement process within Kemdikbudristek.
