Google has introduced support for the artificial intelligence assistant Gemini in the Chrome search application for users in Indonesia. This convenience allows users to perform searches with the aid of artificial intelligence without needing to open additional applications.

Chrome Director and Product Management Charmaine D’Silva stated that the feature, which has been released in the United States, is now available to Chrome users in the Asia-Pacific region, including Indonesia, Singapore, Vietnam, Japan, and South Korea.

“What if everyone could have a personal assistant on the web to help them? This question prompted us to create Gemini in Chrome, with the challenge of taking tasks that usually require 20 tabs in 20 minutes and shortening them into one tab where users can complete their tasks in just a few minutes,” she said during a press conference attended online on Monday (20/4/2026).

The presence of Gemini in Chrome can help users complete text-based tasks as well as perform visual analysis on photos or videos. To utilise Gemini support in Chrome, users must update the application.

The “Ask Gemini” icon will then appear in the top right corner of Chrome after the application is updated. After clicking that icon, users can use the panel on the right side to interact with Gemini.

According to Charmaine’s presentation materials, Gemini, among other things, has the ability to summarise articles, summarise videos, and assist in searching for information, including directly comparing information on websites. Gemini can also explain the context regarding photos of recent events.

Additionally, Gemini in Chrome can help users with planning, such as preparing a list of holiday destinations and integrating it with other Google applications like Calendar if the user permits. Users can also ask Gemini in Chrome to edit images, including redecorating a room photo according to the style desired by the user.

Gemini in Chrome is available for free on the condition that the user is logged into their Google account in Chrome and is at least 18 years old. The Gemini feature in Chrome cannot be used if the user is in “Incognito” mode. This policy is implemented to ensure that privacy and data control remain in the hands of the user.
