Chrisye, Reza win 'ANteve-MTV' music award

JAKARTA (JP): "Enjoy everything you do and you'll get the best out of it."

Since the advice comes from Chrisye, the winner of the ANteve- MTV Most Wanted Indonesian Video '98 and Most Wanted Male, you'd better believe it.

Dressed in black, Chrisye climbed up on to the stage and received both awards at Hard Rock Cafe Tuesday night.

Reza, a new singer, was named Most Wanted Female with her song Pertama (First), taken from her first album Keajaiban (Miracle).

It was the first time the awards, organized by ANteve and MTV, had been presented. The plan is to make them an annual event.

Other winners included Dewa 19, who won the Most Wanted Band/Group/Duo award with Aku Disini Untukmu (I'm here for you), from their latest album Pandawa Lima.

Dewa beat Bragi's Janji (Promise), Potret's Bunda (Mother), /Rif's Radja (King) and Sweet Martabak's Tididit.

But /Rif managed to steal the Most Wanted Newcomer award.

Ade Fitri, who appears in Gigi's song Kurindukan (The One I Miss), won the Most Wanted Model award, while Sweet Martabak, a group of young rappers, won the Most Wanted Costume and the Most Wanted Hair Do & Make-Up awards for their song Tididit.

Chrisye's winning piece, Kala Cinta Menggoda (When Love Flirts), is taken from his latest album, Chrisye, released last November.

Composed by Guruh Soekarnoputra, the song takes love as its theme and blends keroncong tunes with pop melodies.

"I'm proud that people still like my song," said Chrisye, who has crammed 20 solo albums into his 30-year career.

Despite his accomplishments, he is still not sure about his next album. "I'm still searching," said the 49-year-old artist.

Chrisye beat Adi Bing Slamet's Suntuk (Bored), Andre Hehanusa's Untukmu, (For You), Fariz RM's Batas Rindu, (Missing Boundary) and Katon Bagaskara's Tidurlah Tidur, (Please Sleep).

Chrisye's video is to be nominated for the MTV Video Music Awards 1998 Asian Viewer's Choice Award. The video will be broadcast by MTV Asia on Sept. 11 at 8 p.m. and by ANteve on Sept. 20 at 10 a.m.

Chrisye will be up against H.O.T from Korea, Nicole Theriault from Thailand, Innuendo from Malaysia and Kulay from the Philippines.

"Viewers can help Chrisye win the Asian Viewer's Choice Award by filling in forms in magazines or in record stores from July 1 to Aug. 15," said Radjasa Barkah, MTV Asia's artist relations manager here.

The naming of Reza as Most Wanted Female came as a surprise as she has not been in the singing business for long. She beat senior Krisdayanti's Ku Tak Sanggup, (I Can't), Memes' (Pesawatku, My Plane), Nicky Astria's Suka, (I like it) and Oppie's (Na...Na...Na).

"I never thought that I'd win something, an award like this. It's a surprise," Reza, dressed in gold, said.

"I knew about it (the winning) after receiving a phone call (from the organizers) and came here right away," she said.

The 23-year-old Reza, whose full name is Reza Artamovia Adriana Eka Suci, is a student at the School of Economics at Universitas Pancasila.

She is now busy on her second album, scheduled to be completed "soon." (ste)
