PENANG, Malaysia (Reuters): World number one and top seed Peter Gade Christensen of Denmark won the Malaysian Open title on his fifth attempt on Sunday by taming new Indonesian star Jeffer Rosobin.
The Dane's powerful smashes, drop shots and excellent cross court play carried him past the 22-year-old Indonesian giantkiller 15-5, 15-12.
"The wind affected me very much but I was able to control my game. It was an easy win for me," said the 21-year old champion, who won US$7,800.
Earlier, world number six Zhang Ning of China fought off fighting teammate Dai Yun, the number two seed, 11-5, 1-11, 11-3 in a 31-minute women's final.
