Chris Hemsworth Denies Retirement, Hints at Unique Future for Thor

Good news for fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). Actor Chris Hemsworth has confirmed that he will continue to wield the Mjolnir hammer and portray the iconic character, Thor.

Hemsworth dismissed retirement rumours during an appearance on the SmartLess podcast. The actor, who has played the God of Thunder since 2011, affirmed that his relationship with Marvel Studios remains strong.

Hemsworth even claimed that Marvel Studios President, Kevin Feige, is still very enthusiastic about further developing the character of Thor.

“(Feige) said it was great because the audience now expects dramatic changes with the character. And whatever we do next, we have some ideas to do something quite unique again and hopefully (different),” said Hemsworth.

Interestingly, Hemsworth openly acknowledged a “misdirection” in the character of Thor in previous films. He stated that Kevin Feige fully supports a new transformation so that the character does not get stuck in the same pattern.

Hemsworth continued, “We may have joked too much, which triggered (backlash).”

This awareness suggests that Thor’s future appearances will likely return to a more serious direction or have a different emotional depth than before.

The seriousness of this new direction can be seen in the teaser trailer for the film Avengers: Doomsday, which was released in late 2025. In the trailer, Thor appears as a father figure to Love.

Love is the daughter of Gorr the God Butcher, Thor’s enemy played by Christian Bale. Interestingly, the character of Love is played by India Rose Hemsworth, who is Chris Hemsworth’s real-life daughter.

Fans will have to wait to see their full performance. Avengers: Doomsday is scheduled for global release on December 18, 2026, followed by Avengers: Secret Wars on December 17, 2027. (Ant/P-4)
