A fire ripped through a chopstick production factory and Shopee parcel warehouse in Kampung Melayu Timur village, Teluknaga District, Tangerang Regency, Banten, on Thursday morning, 21 May. Head of the Tangerang Regency Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), Achmad Taufik, said the incident occurred at 02:20 WIB. At the time of reporting, firefighting operations were ongoing, with the fire no longer spreading and cooling operations underway. ‘The firefighting is still in progress and the fire is no longer spreading. Cooling has begun,’ Taufik said. Taufik disclosed that the blaze is believed to have originated from an electrical short circuit at the chopstick factory, which then spread to Shopee’s expeditions warehouse and a nearby residential house. ‘For now, information from residents indicates the fire originated from a short circuit at the chopstick factory,’ he explained. In the incident, BPBD deployed 30 personnel and seven fire engines. Taufik added that the response lasted eight hours. He emphasised that there were no fatalities or injuries. ‘What was burned were three building objects, namely the chopstick factory, Shopee’s warehouse and one residential house,’ he explained.
