Cholil wants AG replaced

JAKARTA: People's Consultative Assembly deputy speaker Cholil Bisri supported calls that Attorney General MA Rachman be replaced for his blatant failure to handle high-profile corruption cases.

"It's obvious that the Attorney General's Office doesn't have the will to probe cases involving former president Soeharto and his cronies. It's always just the small fish," he was quoted by Antara as saying on Sunday.

Cholil agreed with legislator Haryanto Taslam of the Indonesian Democractic Party of Struggle (PDI Perjuangan), who said earlier that Rachman had failed to perform.

Cholil said that the government should evaluate the performance of the Attorney General and his office.

"If he should be dismissed, then just do it. If we are hesitant in combating corruption, it will cause the disintegration of the nation," he remarked. --Antara
