Chinese Tourist Who Fell Unconscious on Mount Rinjani Successfully Evacuated

Li Xianhua (47), a foreign national from China, was successfully evacuated after falling whilst climbing Mount Rinjani via the Senaru route in North Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB). The victim had lost consciousness due to a head injury.

Head of the Mataram SAR Office Muhammad Hariyadi said the accident occurred at around 08.00 Central Indonesia Time (WITA) on Monday (14/9/2026). The Mataram SAR Office received the report at 10.00 WITA from an EMHC representative, Mustiadi.

“The report regarding the incident was received by the Mataram SAR Office at 10.00 WITA from the EMHC representative, Mustiadi. Based on preliminary information, the accident occurred at around 08.00 WITA,” said Hariyadi in his statement on Monday evening (14/9/2026).

The Mataram SAR Office then deployed personnel from the Sembalun SAR Alert Unit to the location. Personnel from the Mataram SAR Office and the Bangsal SAR Alert Unit were also deployed to speed up the evacuation process.

“Our main focus now is to reach the victim as quickly as possible to provide initial medical assistance, given that the victim was reported to have suffered a head injury and lost consciousness. The evacuation process is still ongoing,” added Hariyadi.

The evacuation involved a joint SAR team, porters, and local climbing guides. The team used various equipment, ranging from mountaineering gear and medical evacuation equipment to supporting operational vehicles.

The rescue team finally reached the victim at around 20.15 WITA. The evacuation was then carried out in relay fashion towards the Senaru TNGR Post.

“Thanks to solid cooperation between the units in the field, at around 20.15 WITA the rescue team managed to reach the victim. The subsequent evacuation was carried out in relay towards the Senaru TNGR Post,” said Hariyadi on Tuesday (15/9/2026).

The joint SAR team arrived at the Senaru TNGR Post with the victim at around 04.47 WITA. The victim was then taken to the Nusa Medica Clinic in Sembalun for further medical treatment.

“Today, precisely at 04.47 WITA, the Joint SAR Team arrived at the Senaru TNGR Post with the victim. The victim was immediately evacuated to the Nusa Medica Clinic in Sembalun for further medical treatment,” he added.

Operational Director of the Nusa Medica Clinic Sembalun, Rosalia Puspita Jaya, said the victim had suffered a broken leg, a head wound, and abrasions on her back. The victim’s condition began to stabilise after receiving treatment.

“We have treated her well and the patient’s condition has started to stabilise. We have stabilised her; there is a wound on her head and abrasions on her back,” she explained.

The victim was then referred to Siloam Hospital in Mataram for further examination.

“At around 07.09 WITA our team arrived at Siloam Hospital. The abrasions on her back require further examination using X-rays,” she explained.
