A 22-year-old Chinese tourist, RF, was raped in Pecatu, Bali. Bali Governor Wayan Koster stated that Bali is currently safe and visited by many tourists. When asked about the case, Koster emphasised that it was merely an isolated incident.

“I have already coordinated with the Provincial Police Chief; everything has been properly signed off,” he said.

Head of Public Relations for Bali Police, Senior Commissioner Ariasandy, confirmed the rape case that occurred in the jurisdiction of the Kuta Selatan Police Sector, specifically around Pecatu, Bali.

The case has been reported to Bali Police with number LP/B/264/III/2026/SPKT/POLDA BALI, dated 24 March 2026, on suspicion of the criminal offence of rape and/or physical sexual harassment and/or theft as stipulated in Article 473 of Law Number 1 of 2023 on the Criminal Code.

“Currently, the case is under police investigation and we are handling it. Officers are conducting field investigations. There is no further information yet, and officers are only relying on the initial chronology according to the report,” he said on Wednesday (25/3/2026).

He explained the chronology of the rape against the Chinese tourist. Initially, the woman from Shanghaigongguan, Rongchang, Chongqing, China, was staying in Bali with a female friend from Kazakhstan. They headed to IL Salloto Bar at Jl. Labuansait No.10B, Uluwatu, Pecatu, Kuta Selatan, Bali, to drink.

Around 04:00 WITA, the victim’s friend left first because she was tired, and shortly after, the victim also left IL Salloto. The victim does not remember how she suddenly found herself on a motorcycle driven by a man wearing a dark blue shirt, and she realised the man was not heading towards the guest house where she was staying. She was dropped off in a grassy area and then raped.

After satisfying his lust, the perpetrator borrowed the victim’s mobile phone under the pretext of opening a map to guide him in taking the victim back to her accommodation in the Canggu area.

“I need to borrow your phone for directions,” the victim quoted the perpetrator as saying.

The victim eventually gave her purple iPhone 14 to the perpetrator. The two continued the journey to the guest house where the victim was staying. Upon arriving in front of the guest house around 06:00 WITA, the perpetrator offered the victim, saying, “Do you want to go to a hotel with me?” The victim then gave the man Rp150,000 (one hundred fifty thousand rupiah) so that he would leave.

The victim immediately entered the villa. However, upon reaching the stairs to her room, she realised her phone was still with the perpetrator. When the victim went back out to retrieve it, the perpetrator had fled.

“As a result of the incident, the victim feels shocked, traumatised, and fearful, but the victim did not suffer physical injuries because during the incident, the perpetrator did not use physical or verbal violence against the victim,” he said.
