Chinese Tea Culture Event Held in Jakarta
Jakarta (ANTARA) – A tea-themed event titled ‘Tea for Harmony, Shared Beauty’ was held on Thursday, 21 May, in Jakarta, inviting guests from various countries to celebrate International Tea Day, which falls on the same day. Organised by the Chinese Embassy in Indonesia, the event featured lectures on tea culture, tea art performances, experiences of intangible cultural heritage, and a tea tasting session. The activity showcased, in tangible terms, the deep heritage and contemporary vitality of traditional Chinese tea culture, while promoting the idea of harmony in diversity, living side by side in harmony, and shared beauty. In his address at the event, Wang Lutong, the Chinese Ambassador to Indonesia, said that tea carries the meaning of civilisation and conveys a message of peace that transcends national borders. He said tea is about harmony between humans and nature, while realising the values of common benefit and inclusiveness. He said International Tea Day should be used as an opportunity to safeguard friendship and to strengthen Indonesia’s relations with other countries. In his remarks, the Chair of the Regional Representative Council (DPD) of the Republic of Indonesia, Sultan Bachtiar Najamudin, said International Tea Day reminds the public that tea can be a means of friendship, ‘but friendship does not mean harmony in homogeneity, but harmony in diversity.’ He said International Tea Day should be used as an opportunity to safeguard friendship and further strengthen Indonesia’s relations with other countries. Indonesia’s Minister of Culture Fadli Zon said culture grows through dialogue, adaptation, and mutual respect. According to Fadli, the event shows how tea, which is simple yet profound, can be a bridge between civilizations.
