Chinese pianist to perform in Yogya
YOGYAKARTA: Pianist Sun Yingdi of Shanghai is to perform at a solo concert here on July 9, 2005 at the auditorium of Gadjah Mada University's school of medicine at 7:30 p.m.
Jointly organized by Yogyakarta-based Karta Pustaka Dutch cultural center and the Erasmus Huis Jakarta, the concert is part of 25-year-old Yingdi's world tour after winning the first prize at the 7th International Franz Liszt Piano Competition this year.
"Held annually in Utrecht, the Netherlands, the International Franz Liszt Piano Competition has been a prestigious event, the standard of achievement for young pianists, especially because Liszt's compositions themselves have been considered as difficult pieces to play," Karta Pustaka's Executive Director Anggi Minarni said.
During the two-hour concert in Yogyakarta, Yingdi is scheduled to play Mozart's Sonate in C major, KV 330, Ravel's Scarbo (uit: Gaspard de la Nuit, No. 3), and Liszt's Mephisto Waltz No. 1, S- 514, Ballade No. 2, S-171, Sonetto di Petrarca 104, S-161/5, and Rhapsody espagnole, S-254.
The pianist is also scheduled to perform in Jakarta on July 11, 2005 at Gedung Kesenian Jakarta. -- JP
