Chinese New Year 2026: BMKG Forecasts Rain across Nearly All Regions
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) has warned of the potential for heavy rainfall across a number of regions in Indonesia today, coinciding with celebrations of Chinese New Year 2577 Kongzili.
“Preparedness needs to be heightened for the potential of heavy to very heavy rain in the regions of Aceh, Jambi, Banten, West Java, Jakarta, Central Java, D.I. Yogyakarta, East Java, Bali, West Nusa Tenggara, East Nusa Tenggara, South Sulawesi, North Sulawesi and North Maluku,” said BMKG forecaster Sastia Frista in an online weather forecast followed from Jakarta on Tuesday.
For major cities across Indonesia, Sastia noted that BMKG forecasts thick cloud cover in Banda Aceh and light rain in Medan, Pekanbaru, Tanjung Pinang, Padang, Jambi, Pangkal Pinang and Bengkulu.
There is also the potential for rain accompanied by lightning in Palembang and Bandar Lampung.
In the Java region, there is the potential for rain across all provincial capitals, including light rain in Jakarta and Surabaya, as well as moderate-intensity rain in Serang, Bandung, Semarang and Yogyakarta today.
There is also a possibility of light rain in the Denpasar, Mataram and Kupang areas.
For the Kalimantan region, BMKG has warned of the potential for light rain in the Tanjung Selor and Samarinda areas, as well as rain accompanied by lightning in Pontianak, Palangkaraya and Banjarmasin.
Meanwhile, light rain is also forecast for the Gorontalo, Palu, Mamuju, Makassar and Kendari areas, with the possibility of moderate-intensity rain in Manado.
In eastern Indonesia, light rain may fall in Ambon, Sorong, Manokwari, Nabire, Jayapura, Jayawijaya and Merauke, with the potential for moderate-intensity rain in the Ternate area.
