Chinese NEV Manufacturers Win Awards at GIIAS 2026

Four new energy vehicle (NEV) models from Chinese manufacturers won favourite car awards at Indonesia’s largest automotive exhibition, the GAIKINDO Indonesia International Auto Show (GIIAS) 2026, which took place from 30 July to 9 August.

The four models included the Chery Q electric car, which was awarded favourite passenger vehicle in the hatchback segment, and the Wuling AiraEV electric car, which was the most test-driven electric vehicle (EV) during the exhibition. Meanwhile, Jetour won two awards at once: special exhibit car for the T1 I-DM model and most test-driven hybrid car for the T2 I-DM model.

“The selection of the Chery Q as favourite hatchback shows that the completeness of features and the driving experience we offer received a positive response from visitors,” said Chery Business Unit Vice Country Director Budi Darmawan Jantania in a statement.

In addition to vehicle categories, several other Chinese brands such as GWM, Xpeng and Leapmotor also won awards for the most popular exhibition stand category at the show.

This year’s GIIAS exhibition was enlivened by a number of Chinese car manufacturers that launched several new models, mostly in the NEV segment, both pure electric cars and plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEV). In addition, two new brands also officially launched, namely Leapmotor and Zeekr, which presented more NEV options for the domestic market.

The exhibition became an opportunity for these brands to showcase NEV innovations while increasing their market penetration in Indonesia. Chinese brand DFSK, for example, recorded total orders of more than 600 units by the final day of the exhibition, with more than half coming from its newest hybrid car, the DFSK E5 Plus.

Director of Marketing Centre at PT Sokonindo Automobile Cing Hok Rifin said the positive response to the E5 Plus indicates that PHEV technology has significant room to grow in Indonesia.
