Chinese nationals detained

MAKASSAR, South Sulawesi: The city immigration office has detained two more Chinese nationals for alleged visa violations, bringing the number of foreigners apprehended over the past month to six.

Head of the office Dody M. Wibowo said Ajin Wu, 37, and Li Yushu, 44, were detained on Saturday after they were found selling goods door-to-door. The Chinese, Dody said, held a visa granted to whole sale businesspeople.

Immigration officials seized from the two Chinese Rp 6,8 million in cash and other banknotes in United States, Chinese and Macau currencies, 225 binoculars, 25 wristwatches and jewelry.

The two men entered the country on July 13 and have been in Makassar since the past week. Dody said they had operated their business in Jakarta, Bontang and Surabaya.

Earlier this month the office arrested a Chinese, Italian, South Korean and Indian also for visa offenses. -- JP
