Chinese National Deported from Madiun for Overstay and Illegal Work as Chef

The Class II Non-Immigration Checkpoint (TPI) Immigration Office in Madiun, East Java, has deported a Chinese national with the initials ZK (46) after he was proven to have violated immigration regulations.

Head of the Class II Non-TPI Madiun Immigration Office, Arief Adi Prayogo, said ZK was found to have overstayed his residence permit while also working as a cook at a restaurant in Madiun City without the appropriate authorisation.

“We detained one man with the initials ZK, a Chinese national. The information was obtained from the public, and after we took his statement, it was also discovered that he had overstayed, with his permit having expired on 27 June 2026,” Arief said in Madiun on Thursday.

According to him, ZK previously held a Limited Stay Permit (ITAS) sponsored by a company in Semarang. However, based on coordination with the Semarang Immigration Office, ZK was found to no longer be in an employment relationship with that sponsor.

“The individual absconded and then engaged in illegal activity as a chef or cook at a restaurant in Madiun,” he said.

After being detained, ZK was taken to the Madiun Immigration Office to undergo further examination regarding his residence permit status, the purpose of his presence in Indonesia, and his work activities.

Arief stated that ZK’s violations relate to Article 78 paragraphs (2) and (3) as well as Article 75 paragraphs (1) and (2) of the Immigration Law.

After the entire examination process was completed, the Madiun Immigration Office imposed administrative immigration measures in the form of deportation and entry prohibition. ZK was deported on 11 August 2026.

In ZK’s case, Immigration authorities also examined the owner or manager of the restaurant where ZK worked. ZK’s sponsor in Semarang was also asked to provide information. For the party in Madiun, Immigration issued a warning letter to prevent similar incidents from recurring.
