Police suspect that Chinese national JJ (39) intended to build an ecstasy factory in Indonesia after being caught carrying 2 kg of ecstasy powder through Soekarno-Hatta Airport in Tangerang on 20 March 2026. “Based on the large quantity of MDMA (ecstasy powder) of nearly 2 kg, this also indicates the potential for a factory in Indonesian territory,” said Tangerang Airport Police Chief Kombes Pol Wisnu Wardana during a press conference at the Soekarno-Hatta Customs Office on Friday (27/3/2026). Meanwhile, his accomplice AS alias Hansam, also a Chinese national, is suspected to be the owner and controller. Previously reported, in his action, JJ hid the ecstasy powder inside a modified suitcase lined with aluminium foil. The aim was to avoid detection by the X-ray machines at Soekarno-Hatta Airport. JJ flew from Cambodia and arrived in Jakarta on Friday (20/3/2026). However, his actions raised suspicions during an inspection by customs officers. The officers then conducted further checks and found the MDMA narcotic hidden inside the suitcase’s walls. For his actions, suspect JJ is charged under Article 114 paragraph (2) of Law Number 35 of 2009 on Narcotics, with threats of the death penalty, life imprisonment, or a maximum of 20 years in prison.
