Chinese National Arrested After Bringing Narcotics to Soekarno-Hatta Airport
Tangerang (ANTARA) - The Main Customs Service Office of the Madya Type Pabean (KPUBC TMP) C Soekarno-Hatta (Soetta), Tangerang, Banten, arrested CJ (39), a foreign national from China, who was caught bringing 1.915 grams of Schedule I narcotic MDMA to Indonesia’s largest airport.
The Head of Soekarno-Hatta Customs, Hengky Tomuan Parlindungan Aritonang, stated during a press conference in Tangerang on Friday that the smuggling of the illicit goods, consisting of MDMA mixed with cocaine in powder form and etomidate in vape pods, was uncovered through inspections by officers at Soekarno-Hatta Airport.
“This enforcement is the result of ongoing risk analysis operations and cross-agency synergy that took place during the Eid al-Fitr 1447 H holiday period in 2026,” he said.
He explained that the Chinese foreign national, identified as a courier, was apprehended after being found carrying narcotics upon arrival in Indonesia via a flight from Techo International Airport in Cambodia (KTI) to Jakarta (CGK) on Friday (20/3) night.
“The passenger is suspected of involvement as a narcotics courier, with evidence consisting of 1.915 grams of Schedule I narcotic MDMA, hidden using the false concealment method in the suitcase walls to evade inspection officers,” he clarified.
Following the case handling, Customs, in collaboration with the Airport Police Resort’s Narcotics Unit (Satresnarkoba Polresta), conducted further investigations.
Hengky stated that on Tuesday (24/3), another inspection was carried out on a shipment package declared as toys, but other items were found in the form of eight vape pods containing Schedule II narcotic liquid etomidate, using the false declaration method, destined for Kemayoran, Central Jakarta.
“Further cooperation with Satresnarkoba Polresta led to the case revelation, and one individual with initials JS (Indonesian citizen, male, 33 years old) was successfully apprehended as the recipient of the shipment package,” he explained.
Meanwhile, the Chief of the Airport Police Resort Soekarno-Hatta, Commissioner Whisnu Wardana, added that both perpetrators have been detained. Currently, his side is conducting further investigations regarding the MDMA narcotic.
“With nearly 2 kilograms of MDMA evidence, we will conduct further investigations to determine whether the evidence is raw material or similar,” he clarified.
Whisnu added that his side is currently hunting for a foreign national from China who is the controller of the MDMA shipment to Indonesia.
“The wanted person (DPO) is one individual with initials HS, a Chinese foreign national,” Whisnu revealed.
For their actions, all perpetrators are charged under Law No. 35 of 2009 on Narcotics, with a maximum penalty of death or imprisonment as per the applicable law.
