Mamuju (ANTARA News) - A Chinese investor will develop an international container port in Belang-Belang, Mamuju, West Sulawesi, in 2011, governor Anwar Adnan Saleh said here on Wednesday
He said the Chinese investor`s plan was the result of cooperation between the Indonesian and Chinese governments.

"The two countries` cooperation has been followed up with the signing of a memorandum of understanding in Beijing some time ago," he said.

Anwar said the container port was labelled "international" by transportation minister Freddy Numberi. "The international label is not from us but a direct approval from Pak (Mr) Freddy," he said.

He believed commerce in the region would grow following the development of the port. "The port located around 40 kilometers from Mamuju will become the trade centre in West Sulawesi," he said.

"I believe the operation of the port later would boost the region`s economy and open employment for the local people who have difficulties finding jobs," he said.
