Chinese investor to build thermal power plant in Padang

Padang, W Sumatra (ANTARA News) - State electricity company PT PLN will appoint China National Technical Import Corporation (CNTIC) to build a government-funded thermal power plant at Teluk Sirih in Padang, West Sumatra, at a cost of Rp2.5 trillion, a spokesman said.

PT PLN President Director Fachmi Muchtar and an CNTIC official were expected to sign a cooperation agreement to that effect here on Friday, the spokesman of PT PLN`s regional operations in West Sumatra, Asril Kalis, said on Wednesday.

The power plant which would have a capacity of 2x100 megawatts would be built on 40 hectares of land, he said.

The project is part of the government`s plan to build thermal power plants with a combined capacity of 10,000 megawatts.

It is expected to be completed in 2010 and to start operations in 2011.(*)
