Chinese Guangdong Business Delegation Expresses Serious Interest in Cilegon Port Investment
CILEGON – A business delegation from Guangdong Province, China, has expressed serious interest in investing in the port sector, particularly in the construction of Warnasari Port, a strategic project of the Cilegon City Government.
During a meeting facilitated by the Cilegon City Government on Tuesday (27/5/2025), the Chinese entrepreneurs stated their interest, primarily due to Cilegon's position as an industrial city with significant logistics potential.
Guangdong business representative Zhangbiao directly outlined the compelling reasons his party is eyeing Cilegon as an investment location. "Cilegon has attracted our attention the most in Indonesia, owing to the high level of interest and warm welcome from the Mayor of Cilegon towards our project investment. We very much wish to carry out projects here," he said.
Zhangbiao added that the port sector is the primary focus of investment cooperation between Guangdong business operators and Indonesia. "We very much hope for port investment here, because Cilegon is an industrial city," he stressed.
Cilegon Mayor Robinsar confirmed that the port sector was the main topic of discussion during the meeting. He revealed that one of the Chinese investors had declared a commitment by preparing an investment budget of up to Rp2.5 trillion.
"Regarding PCM, they are very serious — they have prepared Rp2.5 trillion for the port," Robinsar disclosed.
The Cilegon City Government, Robinsar continued, will actively facilitate the investment process, from licensing through to cross-agency communication, to ensure the investment proceeds smoothly. The city administration will also communicate directly with Indonesia's Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) and the environmental affairs agency regarding the legality and technical aspects of the construction.
"We will facilitate licensing and communicate with BKPM so that the investment is not made difficult, and we will also coordinate with the environmental division," he said.
As part of the project's realisation, a new company will be established through a joint venture between the Chinese investors and the PCM management, which will be responsible for the construction and operation of the port.
"Like it or not, PCM and the Chinese investors will jointly establish a new company that will handle both the construction and management operations," Robinsar concluded.
