Chinese Foreign Ministry: No point in continuing war against Iran
There is no point in continuing this conflict, which should not have happened in the first place.
Istanbul (ANTARA) - A spokesperson for the Chinese Foreign Ministry stated that there is no point in continuing the war against Iran amid the momentum of Chinese President Xi Jinping hosting US President Donald Trump in Beijing on Friday.
“There is no point in continuing this conflict, which should not have happened in the first place,” the spokesperson said when asked whether Trump and Xi discussed Iran and Beijing’s position on the war.
The spokesperson affirmed that China proposes that the parties involved seek a solution as soon as possible to resolve the situation, which is in the interest of not only the US and Iran, but also the countries in the region and the world.
The spokesperson for the Chinese Foreign Ministry also emphasized the importance of reopening shipping lanes as soon as possible in response to calls from the international community and to jointly maintain the stability of the global supply chain.
“It is important to achieve a comprehensive and sustainable ceasefire as soon as possible, restore peace and stability to the Middle East and the Gulf region as soon as possible, and lay the foundation for building a sustainable regional security architecture,” said the spokesperson for the Chinese Foreign Ministry.
“He (Xi Jinping) said, if I can help, I want to help. Anyone who buys that much oil clearly has some kind of relationship, but he wants to see the Strait of Hormuz open,” said Trump.
Trump’s visit to China comes amid the ongoing Middle East conflict, which was triggered after US and Israeli forces launched attacks against Iran on February 28.
Iran retaliated by attacking Israel and US allies in the Gulf region and closing the Strait of Hormuz. Currently, an indefinite ceasefire is in effect.
