Chinese fighter jet simulator found using Windows XP

A Chinese Shenyang J-11 fighter jet simulator has been found operating on the outdated Windows XP, as evidenced by photographs circulating online. The images, bearing a watermark from Chinese military news site military.cnr.cn, show a crew member in the cockpit and another operating the simulator. Five monitors are visible on the console, two of which display the iconic Windows XP desktop background featuring a green field with white clouds. The ‘Bliss’ image, as it is known in Windows XP, is featured on the screens. Microsoft discontinued security updates for XP in April 2014, yet various military systems continue to use it. The US Navy has reportedly allocated $9.1 million to maintain XP on its aircraft systems, despite the 14-year-old operating system. The funds cover technical support for legacy computing systems still running the outdated operating system.
